Strengthening Families
1. Increase target group's (high school students in Jefferson County alternative schools, aged 10-14) perception of risk/harm associated with alcohol and other drug use by 10% as measured by the five "perceived harm" items on the Core/GPRA instrument

2. Decrease by 10% the target groups' reporting of favorable attitutdes toward use as measured by the Core/GPRA instrument
3. Improve target group's (parents/caregivers and youth's) communication effectiveness as measured by the five "communicaion style" (parent) and the three "family communication" items on the Strengthening Familis instrument. Increase by 10% the target group's ability to recognize effective communication, listening skills, and behavioral and cognitive coping skils (i.e. increase protective factors) as measured by the Core/GPRA instrument and the Strengthening Families instrument (decision making items) as measured by items 4, 11, 9, and 12 on the Strengthening Families Youth Pre/Post Test and by all items in Section G of the CORE/GPRA
4. Increase by 10% the participants' (youth and parent/caregiver) life and social skills as measured by the Strengthening Families instrument (two peer pressure and two stress management items for youth as well as seven nurture and support items for parent/caregiver)
Project Toward No Drug Abuse
1. Increase target group's (high school students in Jefferson County alternative schools, aged 14-19) perception of risk/harm associated with alcohol and other drug use by 10% as measured by the five "perceived harm" items on the Core/GPRA instrument Individual/Peer
2. Increase by 10% the target groups' reporting of favorable attitutdes toward use as measured by the Core/GPRA instrument
3. Increase by 10% the target group's ability to recognize effective communication, listening skills, and behavioral and cognitive coping skils (i.e. increase protective factors) as measured by the modified Project Toward No Drug Abuse pre/post test developed by the Jefferson SIG evaluators and the Core/GPRA instrument (decision making items)
4. Decrease students' reported belief in substance use myths by 10% (i.e. decrease risk factors) as measured by the modified Project Toward No Drug Abuse pre/post test developed by the Jefferson SIGevaluators
