National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices

In order to assist professionals and communities in identifying approaches to preventing and dealing with mental and/or substance use disorders, SAMHSA developed the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP). NREPP is a searchable resource that provides users with a way to review and identify mental health and substance abuse interventions that have been reviewed and rated by independent reviewers.

NREPP was originally part SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Prevention's (CSAP) Model Programs Initiative. After reviewing and considering over 1,100 programs submitted, more than 150 were designated as Model, Effective, or Promising Programs using the original NREPP rating system.

SAMHSA began looking at ways to expand and improve NREPP and in 2004 began looking at ways to make NREPP a more useful system. As a result of feedback and continued improvements, the new NREPP is meant to serve as a more comprehensive and interactive source of information. Rather than looking at an overall rating of a program, NREPP provides ratings on individual outcomes - and as a result, the ratings reported by NREPP now include the "Quality of Research" ratings and "Readiness for Dissemination" ratings.

To find out more about NREPP, to find an intervention, review the process for rating interventions, how to submit your program, the history of NREPP, and more, go to http://nrepp.samhsa.gov/
