The Statewide Youth Leadership Council (SYLC) educates, empowers and engages youth as leaders and stakeholders in their community and throughout the state. Youth develop and implement action plans based on sound community change strategies. SYLC members receive technical assistance and training to develop their leadership skills and to assist them in accomplishing their goals and objectives. Membership is open for any Wisconsin teen interested in becoming active in their community.
The current focus is on environmental change strategies to address the social and health consequences of alcohol and other substance use. Examples include school policies on alcohol and other drugs, youth access to alcohol through compliance checks, social marketing campaigns focused on alcohol, and restrictions at community events.
