Coalition Improvement Grants
Coalition Improvement Grants focus on building more successful coalitions based on the Strategic Prevention Framework and industry standards in coalition development. This grant program utilizes a mentoring relationship to produce improved coalition development for lesser-developed coalitions.
- Amount and number of awards depends upon available funding.
- Applicants must demonstrate a clear need based on their local Alliance history and current status, explain how community sectors and young people will be engaged in the project process and identify clear and measurable process and outcome objectives.
- Selection of awardees is based on project description, project workplan, project results and project budget.
- The Request for Proposals (RFP) is typically released to Alliance members in early Spring, pending state budgeting and contracting.
Alliance Mini Grants
Alliance Mini-Grantsprovide $400 to local Alliances to support events designed to educate and mobilize citizens and leaders for prevention and youth development. The Request for Application (RFA) is released once per year; mini-grants are awarded on a competitive basis and based on available state funds.
- FACTS (Family and Community Town Suppers) combine a family-style meal with discussion about a current issue or topic of concern. FACTS awarded specifically through the AWY must focus on substance abuse prevention, positive youth development or other related topics. A key element of these events is to promote youth leadership and involvement side-by-side with adults as community leaders and members.
- Link ’n’ Learn events bring together adults and/or youth to share experiences, local programming and knowledge about prevention and positive youth development work.
- A Youth Summit provides a forum for young people to organize, network, learn, and share their hopes and concerns in a public setting. Youth Summits can equip young people to make a difference in their community or it can educate adults about the needs and potential of young people in their community. Either way, Youth Summits encourage youth-adult partnerships, in which both are learners and teachers.
- World Café events create conversation around questions that matter. A Café conversation is a creative process for producing dialogue, sharing knowledge and creating possibilities for action in groups of all sizes larger than 12. Works well with youth, adults and mixed groups.
Event Scholarships
The Alliance provides scholarships for training conferences and workshops in the fields of prevention and positive youth development. Available funding determines whether scholarships will be offered each year. In recent years, the Alliance provided at least $10,000 in registrations and lodging to the Wisconsin Prevention Conference. Eligible costs may include registration, roundtrip mileage reimbursement and/or lodging costs.
